In this final edition of the 4 part series, we bring it all together with the combination high-pull & snatch. Whether you are learning to snatch for the first time or attempting a significant increase in weight, this unique approach will get you there safely and efficiently.
Are you an artist?
The Art of Strength was designed for everyone. We take a lot of pride in hearing the success stories of hardened military types and (formerly) desperate housewives alike. AoS is not, however, a magic pill. These successes require a deep commitment and lots of hard work.
If you have made personal gains with Art of Strength, we want to hear about it... and more importantly, we want to hear about you. Please share your age, gender, profession, hobbies, fitness history, and whatever else brands you as you! For every success story, there are dozens of individuals just building the nerve to get started. Your story WILL resonate with and inspire someone from a similar walk of life.
Please forward your story to mos@artofstrength.com and we will feature you in the "Artist Profile" segment of a future MOS issue.

Mixing up a tasty combo: Newport & Providence
The 3 biggest questions we get regarding our AoS Newport and Providence DVDs:
1) How should I get started with one of these monsters?
2) Can I mix Newport & Providence in a weekly workout?
3) Could I mix these workouts with other forms of fitness?
Here are some answers...
For beginners (little to no kettlebell experience), start with Providence. First use the practice rounds to familiarize yourself with each exercise. Work at your own pace... don't try to keep up with Anthony! Your first goal should be to complete all the rounds with a lite kettlbell or even no weight at all. Nail the fundamentals! When you are ready, master rounds 1-8 at your own pace with a kettlebell. Takes breaks whenever necessary, form is everything! The next day, do rounds 9-15 in the same manner. Keep up the following schedule for 2-3 weeks:
|
Monday:
Tuesday:
Thursday:
Friday:
|
rounds 1-8
rounds 9-15
rounds 1-8
rounds 9-15 |
Next, begin to work on completing the entire DVD. Take as many breaks as you need. Your goal is to finish safely and effectively. Try this on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. At this point, you should be getting in the best shape of your life. When you are ready, purchase Newport and attack it with the same process.
Mixing Newport & Providence
Newport & Providence are very different-- but both offer complete, full-body workouts. Mixing them will keep your fitness program fresh and exciting week after week. Time to burn that gym membership card! Here are a couple of options:
For strength: choose a kettlebell that challenges you without reaching failure. Train with Providence 3x per week. Newport should be added 2x per week to keep your body super lean, fast, and flexible.
For endurance: alternate weeks of 3x/2x--
|
Week 1:
Week 2:
|
3x Providence, 2x Newport
2x Providence, 3x Newport

Mixing The Art of Strength with other fitness outlets
Our DVDs work very well with your existing strength routines as well. For example: if you have a body building routine with a 4 day slip and are looking to get lean, do Newport and Providence 1x per week. The drills in both DVDs will have you working in planes that you will never hit in your current routine. Your hard earned muscles will stay dense and hard long after your training sessions.
If you are more interested in general fitness and well being, we recommend lots of variety. Hit AoS 2x-3x per week and spend your off days doing lite jogs, hikes, swimming, biking, or whatever you like.
