Video of the week: the alternating sots press
Alternating sots press. One of the more advanced routines this exercise is will definitely leave you feeling it in your obliques. A great routine for anyone with a sport that requires lots of rotational strength; golfers, baseball players, lacrosse players etc etc. If you’ve never done it before, give it a shot – you’ll definitely feel the benefit, but start off a bit lighter than you normally would as performing the Sots Press properly is a bit more challenging than a traditional press.

Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Gold 2001
Growing up as an Italian American, I always remember a bottle of Chianti on my grandmother’s dinner table. Many of you may have seen this Italian classic bottle wrapped in a rattan basket. This big full bodied classic can stand alone or accompany a hearty, robust meal. I enjoy it with most meat and game dishes. Now that the weather is getting cold on the East coast it’s time to break out such big reds. I recommend the Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Gold 2001. As the name implies, it's a true classic.
My favorite pairing is with Pasta Arrabiatta topped with shaved Parmigiano Reggiano. Let’s not forget a crusty loaf of Italian bread. If you are worried about the carbs...Don't be! Just do the snatch test at the end of AOS: Newport. That should set you straight. Like I tell all my clients, "Work hard, play hard." Pick up a bottle or two in the next couple weeks… and watch for my Pasta Arrabiatta recipe in the next Minute of Style!
More reviews for this fine Chianti:
The Wine Advocate
“I prefer the 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Oro with the gold label, however, very elegant in its aromas and flavors of cranberries and raspberries, tobacco, and violets, vigorous and sustained on the mid-palate and finish and with tasty, textured tannins on the close. It should continue to drink well for another dozen years.”
Score: 92. -Daniel Thomases, April 2006.
The Wine Spectator
“This shows a raisiny tar character with hints of brown sugar. Full-bodied and very rich, with velvety tannins. This will improve with age. Drink now. 50,000 cases made.”
Score: 90. -James Suckling, October 31, 2005.
