Minute of Strength #114

We're Blessed.  We really are.  For the third time since last year we were invited to the Tennessee Titans training facility to work with the team, bringing them more of workouts and training concepts.  Since our initial visit last year, head Strength and Conditioning Coach Steve Waterson and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Jason Novak have made kettlebell training a staple of the conditioning program at Tennessee.

Not only did the Titans see one of their best seasons, finishing with a 13-3 record, they also saw the least amount of injuries than any other NFL team.  A statistic largely due to the introduction of kettlebell training.  With kettlebells they were able to simulate, under weight, more realistic and game appropriate movements.  Something that until then was difficult to do with traditional training routines.

While there we introduced our latest training tool, Corrective Strategies, to both Steve and Jason.  Corrective Strategies, a breakdown of the Turkish Get-up, has been used by Punch Gym since 2003 as a screening tool to check for imbalances and deficiencies in a clients mobility and performance.  What the Turkish Get-up allows is a multi-plane movement pattern giving us a glimpse as to how fluid a person moves.  Any inconsistencies and immobility issues will be revealed, giving us the ability to train them effectively, correctly training them to work through any of these discovered deficiencies.

Corrective Strategies, as you can imagine, fits perfectly in an environment such as the Tennessee Titans where athletic performance is paramount and the ability to troubleshoot and fix player deficiencies is critical not only to the success of the player but to the success of the team.  Where other screening processes only tell you there's something wrong with a players movement, corrective strategies gives you correcting exercises to overcome the movement impairments.  As anticipated Corrective Strategies was a huge hit and will now be used exclusively as a screening and training tool.

Corrective Strategies aside, we also introduced our new Vintage Strength workouts, pairing old world lifts and techniques and bringing them into a modern circuit and training regimen.  Things like, dumbbell swings, barbell windmills and dumbbell snatches, just to name a few, will be critical in giving the Titans an advantage in the upcoming season.

As always we took tons of footage and photos.  While the tapes are uploaded and edited  we'll be showing off some of the photos from the 3 day event.  Check them out below...
