Video of the Week: split, squat, stabilize!

Some folks have a little trouble with the 1 leg deadlift round of the AoS: Providence DVD.  This is a very slow, controlled drill requiring a good deal of balance and stability.  You can tap your back toe to keep balance-- but ideally, you'll want to keep that back foot elevated through the whole routine.  This week, Anthony demonstrates a modified kettlebell "split squat" that will help you build up the strength and stability required to properly perform the 1 leg deadlift.

Mailbag motivation

Hi Anthony -

Just wanted to fire off an email to say THANKS, and give you a little feedback.

First, I love your bi-weekly newsletters and read them as soon as they arrive.  I really appreciate the effort you, Jeff, and others put into this.  It always helps and inspires me.

Second, I finally made some sort of "breakthrough" on my seated press.  For some reason this move always kicks my a** - I can never really sit straight as I do it.  My back hurts and it's just painful.  But somehow I broke through this and today I did the full round, keeping up with you with my 35 lb kb.  My back stopped hurting and I was sitting up much straighter.  Don't know what it was, I guess just perservering through until my body was able to do it.

Third, I don't have much of a story to share but I read your profile on Nia in today's newsletter.  Just wanted to share with you that I have the same problem that others have about "time".  But I have really found that if I can force myself out of bed 20 minutes earlier and at a MINIMUM get through 1/2 of AOS: Providence, I actually have MORE time.  I am energized and can face the day much better.

The days when, for whatever reason, I can't drag out of bed in time for my daily workout are the days that get off to a slow, butt dragging start and drag on all day, with no time for
ANYTHING and not a lot of accomplishment by day's end.  The message that I have learned is to do my AOSP workout - no matter what!

Thanks again Anthony.

Become an outsider!!!

The sun is out and the air is warm.  We're not expecting any more snow here in New England anytime soon... hopefully you've kept that hard, lean body throughout the winter by slinging a kettlebell or two in your living room.

Time to get outside and breathe gasp some fresh air!  The audio version of AOS: Providence is perfect for the spring and summer months.  Throw your kettlebell in the car, grab an MP3 player or iPod, and head for the park.  Go ahead, get started on that tan... and raise a few eyebrows while you're at it!
