Video of the week: figure 8 to a hold

The Figure 8 to a hold is slick addition to any workout.  It is featured in the AOS: Providence DVD and Pavel's latest "Enter the Kettlebell" classic.  Anthony created this drill as a variation of one of Jeff Martone's H2H moves.  This week, Anthony gives you the essential instruction to perfect this drill.... plus offers an exciting new variation!

Mailbag minute

Dear Anthony,

Firstly, thanks for the newsletters. They are beyond a doubt the best looking, slickest email I get! The design of your site is exceptional and the video segments are superb.

I have a question regarding your customised KBs and a suggestion for your newsletter. I love the colors and I'd like to brighten up my own. Can you give me an idea of the paint you use and how you do it! I'll understand if it's a trade secret...

It might be fun to invite your subcribers to submit pics of their customised KB's and pick a winner. First place gets the DVDs!

I wish you all the best with Punch Gym.

Kind regards

Rannoch Donald

Painting Kettlebells:  The Strength of Art

The most asked question I get (by a long shot) is...
"How do you paint your kettlebells?"

Time to indulge the Artist within!

  1. Use a good quality spray paint. (I use rustoleum.)

  2. Tape (mask off) the handle of the bell at the base, so as not to get paint on it. It is better for your grip to let the handle wear naturally. (It also looks really cool like that.)

  3. Prime the bell with white paint.

  4. Start layering the bell with colors of your choice. (You may also paint it a solid color).

  5. Use quick short strokes to apply the spray paint.

  6. You don’t need to let one color dry before applying another color.  The trick is to get the colors to blend without letting them drip. This may take a little practice.

  7. Have fun with it.  You can’t make a mistake.  Picasso placed noses were eyes
    belong... was that a mistake?

  8. When you get the desired look you want, clear coat the bell with a high gloss clear spray.  Use 2-3 coats.

  9. Let the bell dry 8-12 hours before using it.
